Waves of Changes for Autism 7th Annual Gala raises $287K

To date, nearly $1.4M raised to support children in Vaughan affected by autism

VAUGHAN, ON (Sept. 29, 2022) – Ellen Contardi, President of Waves of Changes for Autism, announced that $287,000 was raised at the 7th Annual Gala, Love. More than 700 supporters and community members gathered at the Terrace Banquet Centre to support children in Vaughan living with autism.

“I want to thank our kind, caring and compassionate community for their continued support of Waves of Changes for Autism – even while we all navigated through a global pandemic. In addition, we are grateful for the generosity of our sponsors who support our mission with fundraising dollars,“ said Ms. Contardi.

Since being founded in 2016, Waves of Changes for Autism has raised nearly $1.4 million and funded 317 unique applications that help offset the cost of specialized autism therapies, tools and programs for children and families in Vaughan. The organization is among Canada’s top one per cent of charities which direct more than 60% of funds raised directly to programming.

“I am proud to announce that Waves of Changes for Autism received the best Non-Profit Charity Award at the 2022 Vaughan Chamber of Commerce Business Achievement Awards. Additionally, Vaughan-Woodbridge MP Francesco Sorbara bestowed our group with Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee pin in recognition of outstanding charitable work. These are outstanding recognitions. What I am most proud of, however, is that we have not left one child behind. We have funded every eligible application that has been submitted.”

“From day one, our Honourary Chair, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua has been a trusted advisor and strong supporter of our charity’s mission. His leadership and vision have been instrumental in elevating our city to new heights without leaving anyone behind. We wish him the best as he embarks on the next chapter of his life’s journey and we remain grateful for his commitment to continue serving as our Honourary Chair,” said Ms. Contardi.
